Fight Cancer at Home[edit | edit source]
Overview[edit | edit source]
World Community Grid is an IBM initiative, where anybody can volunteer to help with important humanitarian causes, such as finding a cure against cancer. Volunteering can be done by either or both of the following:
- Donating the unused computing power of your home computer;
- Acquiring ownership of a remote server, such as Amazon Web Services (the most basic of which is free for one year), and donating its computing power.
Instructions[edit | edit source]
- Register at World Community Grid
Donating Your Home Computer[edit | edit source]
It is possible to donate power of a computer running Windows, Mac or Linux, which has 400 MB of RAM and 500 MB of fixed storage.
- If the target computer is running Windows or Mac, please download World Community Grid software after registering. If the target computer is running Linux, please consult this article before downloading from the website, as there may be a more convenient way to install World Community Grid software.
Acquiring Remote Server[edit | edit source]
Amazon Web Services offer their most basic remote server free for one year (after which they charge hourly at a rate of about $115 per year).
